“It is a great pity that our highest level of power is not paying attention to the current situation with doping in Russia,” Ganus said in an interview with Deutschlandfunk.

Just last week, Putin intervened in the discussion about the credibility of RUSADA. “We are cooperating very actively with the World Anti-Doping Agency,” said the Russian head of state at a sports conference in Nizhny Novgorod: “WADA’s requirements are being met in full.”

Putin knew nothing about manipulation WADA, however, doubts the authenticity of the data from the Moscow laboratory, which is supposed to prove the extent of the institutionalized doping program in the period from 2012 to 2015. Specifically, according to the chairman of the responsible WADA committee, Jonathan Taylor, positive doping tests were deleted. “When I received the documents, I was shocked,” said Ganus, “because the number and scope of these changes are incredible.”

However, Ganus does not know who exactly changed the data. “This person is in a really high position of power,” he said. According to Ganus, Putin did not know that manipulated data was to be handed over to WADA. The transfer of data from the Moscow Laboratory's Laboratory Information and Management System (LIMS) was a prerequisite for RUSADA's readmission into WADA. “The crisis will last for a few more years” In view of the new revelations, Ganus assumes that Russia will be excluded from next summer's Olympic Games in Tokyo, as it was in Rio in 2016 and in Pyeongchang in 2018. “The crisis will last for a few more years,” he said and demanded: “We have to make extreme changes to the decision-makers and methods that have led our sport into the deepest crisis in its history.” Ganus has served as RUSADA’s general director since 2017.
