Short track: Seidel eliminated in the quarterfinals

Pyeongchang (SID) Short tracker Anna Seidel was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the 500 m sprint at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. The 19-year-old from Dresden only took fourth and last place in her run. From the first meter onwards, number 36 in the world rankings had no chance. Seidel quickly lost touch and was never able to put her three opponents under pressure. “Somehow there was something wrong with my race. I would have liked to present myself better,” said Seidel, who was affected by a slight adductor strain at the start. She now has to place her hopes on further decisions over the longer distances: "I can run more tactically, that suits me better." Coach Daniel Zetzsche was also not satisfied. "Anna stayed below her potential, so there's a bit of disappointment there. Normally she can keep up with it," said the coach. Seidel's club colleague Bianca Walter, who is eight years older than her, had already failed in the preliminary round last weekend. Male German short trackers did not qualify for the Winter Games. Before the second day of the event it became known that the Japanese Kei Saito had been convicted of doping. The 21-year-old was scheduled to be a substitute for the 5000 m relay, but he left the Olympic Village early. The third day of competition for short trackers is Saturday. Then the decisions over the women's 1500 m and the men's 1000 m are on the program.
