It's pretty arbitrary which publication I'm reading at the moment: I'm being followed everywhere by colleagues who no longer address current events in their columns, but rather feel like they're providing advice. What I have to do now, should do, to save the Silent Night in these Corona times. How I should behave to prove myself a valuable member of society. I understood it. I shouldn't do anything. Be good, wear your mask, wash your hands, keep your distance. Every day, hobby psychologists who are given a platform try to talk into my conscience. I almost feel as if I could make a significant contribution to saving the world. Of course that's great. To be able to be a cog, almost a wheel, that is supposed to put an end to this virus. There are enormous feelings of happiness. It is suggested to me how important I suddenly am as a small person and that it is practically up to me personally whether we will all soon have “normal” conditions again. I just have to keep still, breathe calmly, don't go on unnecessary trips and, above all, ventilate the apartment properly (another tip that haunts me and which I of course heed with great enthusiasm until the place is finally really cold) . It's about survival If only everyone did this, not just me and my friends. Because when it comes to sporting events, there is no question of calm. On the contrary. Now it's just getting started. Winter has begun. It has become cold. The Alps can finally have artificial snow and await the entourage of those who, despite all the slogans to keep quiet, are fighting for World Cup points. As the saying goes: it's about survival. For survival even. To put it simply: without competitions, we are told, sport would die out. Now, as a commentator, I of course also live from the fact that the biathletes are starting their European round (the test races for the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing have been moved to the Czech Republic). I look forward to it. Logical. But I also see the immense imbalance in our society and in the decisions of political elected officials everywhere. The sport, it seems, has a huge lobby and is allowed to continue to pursue its competition schedule with almost no restrictions, of course under strict hygiene measures.

Showmen, actors, artists, theater professionals and cinema operators will see this with surprise, as will the stallholders at the Christmas markets. They simply fall by the wayside during this time. No World Cup points. They don't even get half of it. You don't have to tell all those affected in these industries, as well as all small business owners or restaurant owners, on a daily basis that they shouldn't do anything now. They are doomed to stand still. Winter sports, on the other hand, are fought across countries: Lech am Arlberg (Austria), Val Gardena, Alta Badia, Carezza (South Tyrol), Val d'Isère (France), Kontiolahti and Ruka (Finland): In sports in general, it almost feels as if the second Corona wave just gently stroke the tips of your toes. All of this works, or at least should work, because testing is done no matter what. Even twice a day if necessary. Especially in the area that is referred to as so-called professional sports. Do retirement homes also benefit from daily testing? Or all teachers in schools? Hardly likely. This is how our society, of which I can be a valuable member, is drifting apart. There are the active and the inactive. Help and support is still available for the first group. This also includes sports activities. For the second group, and that has long been the vast majority, all that remains is moralistic adulation and slogans of perseverance. That's not much.
