Cross-country skiing: Five Germans in the sprint quarter-finals

Pyeongchang (SID) Sandra Ringwald, Katharina Hennig and Elisabeth Schicho reached the quarterfinals of the 30 best cross-country skiers in the classic sprint at the Olympic Games, as did Sebastian Eisenlauer and Thomas Bing. The winners of the qualification were the Swede Stina Nilsson and the Finn Ristomatti Hakola. Hennig (Oberwiesenthal) and Schicho (Schliersee) followed in positions 25 and 26. Among the men, Eisenlauer (Sonthofen) and Bing (Dermbach) survived the prologue in positions 16 and 22. On the other hand, Hanna Kolb (Buchenberg) was eliminated in 36th place. "I didn't think I had such a chance. I knew it would be difficult. But I didn't expect that at all," said Kolb. Andreas Schlütter, sporting director at the German Ski Association, struggled with the conditions: "Hanna was really unlucky. She caught a really strong gust on the home straight. That's why she had no chance." In the quarter-finals (20.00:12.00 p.m. OZ/XNUMX:XNUMX CET) there are five heats with six starters each; the first and second place finishers from each heat advance to the semi-finals, which are completed by the two fastest “lucky losers”.
