“South Tyrol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run – Christmas Edition” celebrates its premiere

Snowshoe racing has a great tradition, especially among our neighbors in Trentino and the Scandinavian countries. Although snowshoeing is very popular in South Tyrol, there have been no competitions in this country so far. This will change in the future. The experienced organizational team of the “South Tyrol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run” around OK boss Gottfried Hofer from ALV Sextner Dolomiten is organizing a Christmas edition, the so-called Christmas Edition, on Saturday, December 14th.

The participants cover a 9-kilometer distance, during which they partly run on the original route of the well-known international mountain run, which takes place every year in September. After the start in Sexten at the Helmbahnen car park, the Christmas Edition takes snowshoers to Moos, further into the Fischleintal and via the larch field back to the starting point. The starting signal is at 15 p.m.

“We wanted to give the athletes the opportunity to run through our beautiful area in the heart of the Dolomites World Heritage Site even in winter. By organizing a snowshoe race, we are creating a completely new competition. We are convinced that it will be accepted by the runners and that numerous snowshoe athletes and those who want to become snowshoe athletes will come to Sesto,” says OC boss Gottfried Hofer, who is himself an enthusiastic snowshoe hiker. If there is not enough snow by mid-December, the race will be held without snowshoes.

Registration online – Only 200 starting places

Registration for the snowshoe race “Südtirol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run – Christmas Edition” is made in writing using the registration form, which can be downloaded from the website www.dreizinnenlauf.com. It must be sent to the organizers by fax +39 0474 710318 or electronic mail (info@dreizinnenlauf.com). Online registrations will be accepted until December 11th at 20 p.m., after which only on-site registrations will be possible until December 13th (12 p.m.). Participants must be over 16 years of age and have a sports medical certificate.

The entry fee is 30 euros (until December 6th) or 40 euros (7th to 13th December). “However, those interested should hurry up to register, as the starting field is limited to 200 participants,” explains Hofer. Every participant in the “Christmas Edition 2013” will receive a voucher worth 10 euros for registering for the 17th South Tyrol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run, which will take place on Saturday, September 13, 2014.

Pasta party and Krampus parade

The prize distribution will take place after the race at 18 p.m. in the “Haus Sexten”, where all participants will also meet for the big pasta party (from 16 p.m.). From 19 p.m. there will be a big Krampus and Perchten meeting as part of a big parade through Sesto, where the local Krampus will proudly present their handmade (and frightening) masks and costumes.
