Olympics: Russian bobsledder tested positive

As the OAR delegation leadership and the Russian Bobsleigh Association confirmed on Friday, pilot Nadescha Sergeyeva (30) tested positive for the banned stimulant trimetazidine. According to information from the AFP news agency, the B sample will be analyzed on Saturday. Sergeyeva is the second doping case for the "Olympic athletes from Russia" in Pyeongchang after that of curler Alexander Krushelnitsky. Sergejewa took twelfth place in the two-man competition together with pusher Anastasia Kocherschova (30). Stanislav Pozdnyakov, the head of the delegation of the "Olympic Athletes from Russia", fears that the case will have negative consequences for his country on the International Olympic Committee's decision regarding the participation of the OAR athletes in the closing ceremony on Sunday under the Russian flag. The IOC suspended the Russian National Committee over the state doping scandal surrounding the 2014 Games in Sochi. "Unfortunately, this case testifies to the athlete's negligence. I can say that she disappointed us all," Pozdnyakov told the Sport-Express newspaper. Asked how the case would impact the IOC decision, he replied: "It certainly won't be a point in our favor." The International Olympic Committee IOC and the ad hoc chamber CAS in Pyeongchang initially did not want to comment on the case when asked by SID. The IOC later confirmed that it had been informed by the OAR delegation. This was informed about the case by the “Doping-Free Sport Unit” of the Association of All International Sports Federations (GAISF), which is responsible for carrying out the tests in Pyeongchang. On Saturday, the executive branch of the International Olympic Committee wants to decide whether the ROC's suspension will be lifted and Russia will be allowed to compete under its own flag at the closing ceremony.
