Missing millions: New allegations against weightlifting boss Ajan

"We still don't know what happened to all this money," said Michael Cayton, a former board member of the US Lifting Association, to ARD. The whereabouts of at least $5,5 million in payments from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to the world association are unclear.

In 2011, Cayton was one of the complainants who reported irregularities surrounding two Swiss bank accounts to the IOC Ethics Commission. Marino Casadei, ex-secretary general of the European Weightlifting Federation, also explained that the Hungarian Ajan (80) "did not answer our questions about the expenses from the Swiss bank accounts. He did not provide any original documents about it." Casadei was part of an internal IMF review committee that uncovered the existence of the alleged black accounts in 2009. “We still don’t know why millions were missing,” he told the ARD doping editorial team.

In the documentary "Secret Matter Doping - The Lord of the Lifters" the world association and Ajan were accused of having enabled a system of corruption, doping cover-up and slush funds for almost 20 years. The IWF sharply rejected all allegations on Monday.
