VSS sponsorship award for Vinschger joint project

For the 18th time, the Association of Sports Clubs of South Tyrol (VSS) honored clubs with exemplary youth work on Friday, March 2, 2018. The joint project between the young runners from Laas and the young cross-country skiers from Prad was particularly impressive because of its strong social component. “The two sections have been working together successfully across clubs since 1996,” explains the athletics section leader of the ASC Laas, Evi Strimmer. The two sections complement each other perfectly: running training takes place in the summer, and the young athletes circle on the cross-country ski trail in the winter.

A lot of value is also placed on the feeling of togetherness, which is achieved primarily through a variety of joint activities outside of training sessions and competitions. The common motto of the two sections also fits in with this: “Together we are strong”. The focus is on well-being and the joy of movement. “The project was particularly convincing due to the excellent cooperation with the surrounding schools,” adds VSS chairman Günther Andergassen. The collaboration with the elementary school in Laas and the “Experts in Core Teaching” initiative was particularly convincing. “A trained trainer supports the teacher during gymnastics lessons, so everyone involved learns from each other,” explains Strimmer.

Raiffeisen Association chairman Herbert Von Leon gave away the winner's check for 5.000 euros for the entire project. State Councilor Martha Stocker not only congratulated the winners, but also had words of praise for all the young athletes: “Your joy in sport and exercise is simply contagious. Keep it up, you’re great.”

The quantity and quality of the applications submitted were once again impressive this year. 19 outstanding contributions were received for 2017. “The decision was once again not made easy for the expert jury, proof that South Tyrol's sports clubs do very good work with young talent,” said VSS deputy chairman Michael Pichler. Raiffeisen Association chairman Herbert Von Leon saw it similarly: “All the clubs we saw today are doing great work that extends far beyond the sporting area. That’s why it’s a great pleasure for Raiffeisen to support this competition.”

In total, the Raiffeisen Association and the Raiffeisen banks once again provided 9.000 euros for the VSS initiative this year. In addition to the sponsorship award, two special prizes worth 2.000 euros each were awarded. The young handball players from SC Meran, who particularly scored points thanks to the excellent qualifications of the coaches and the ongoing training offers for children, as well as the young sledders from ASV Völs am Schlern were delighted about this. The Völser impressed with the organization of the FIL youth games and a wide range of supporting events.
