VSS: “Strong pillar of South Tyrolean society”

Like the previous and the coming year, the anniversary general meeting was held under the motto “Sports united”. The motto is intended to put cohesion in the foreground and to make it clear that, especially in times of crisis, as we have had to experience in the last few months, sport and the South Tyrolean sports clubs represent an irreplaceable support for society. “Sport can be a kind of staple food and contributes fundamentally to health and joy in life,” says VSS chairman Günther Andergassen about sporting activity in times of crisis. An opinion that was also shared by State Governor Arno Kompatscher in his greetings. At the same time, Kompatscher, who is also responsible for sport within the state government, had words of praise for the Association of Sports Clubs in South Tyrol: “The VSS is a supporting pillar in South Tyrolean society, which has a high value not only in terms of sport or sport policy ", but also in social and cultural aspects." In return, Andergassen thanked the governor for the good cooperation and Kompatscher's open ear for South Tyrolean sports concerns. VSS chairman Günther Andergassen also used the general meeting to review the 2019 year of activity. It became clear that 2019 was a year of upheaval in the association. Last year, four new district representatives, Lidia Bernardi, Markus Gröber, Chrisitan Untermarzoner and Thomas Tiefenbrunner, were elected to the association's board. There are also five new sports speakers: Christian Tröbinger, Helene Gamper, Verena Wolf, Evelyn Call and Helmuth Mathà. There was also a big change in the VSS office: Managing Director Klaus von Dellemann retired at the end of the year and handed over to Daniel Hofer. Chairman Andergassen acknowledged the achievements of the former managing director to great applause from the member clubs. Von Dellemann worked for the association for almost three decades and had a decisive influence on the history of sport in South Tyrol. The Association of Sports Clubs in South Tyrol has been placing high priority on organizing courses, courses and seminars for its member clubs for decades. Chairman Günther Andergassen made it clear that the support of sports officials, supervisors, trainers and all stakeholders is particularly important during these difficult times. “Training and further education will continue to be essential in the future,” emphasized Andergassen. This also applies to cooperation with the neighboring regions of Tyrol and Trentino. There were impressive examples with the EUREGIO Sprint Champion and the EUREGIO Winter Sports Day in 2019. “We will continue to deepen our cooperation in the future,” announced Andergassen and ASVÖ Tyrol President Hubert Piegger during the online general meeting of the VSS . Continuous collaboration with partners is crucial for the VSS. The announcement by the chairman of the South Tyrolean Raiffeisen Association, Herbert Von Leon, that the cooperation with the VSS would be extended for another five years was all the more pleasing. “Raiffeisen and VSS represent the same values, so we are very pleased that we will continue to work together successfully in the future,” explained Von Leon and Andergassen. Key data on the VSS The Association of Sports Clubs of South Tyrol (VSS) as a representative of the German and Ladin-speaking sports clubs in South Tyrol is, with more than 86.000 active members, the association with the largest number of members in South Tyrol. A total of 496 amateur sports clubs with 1.084 sections from all parts of the country are currently affiliated to the association. The VSS also organizes its own championships, tournaments and competitions through its 17 different sports departments. More than 2019 athletes took part in the various VSS competitions in 17.500.
