As WADA announced, there are enough bottles to carry out the test program at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang (from February 9th), which started on Thursday. The organizing committee POCOG and the independent DFSU (Doping Free Sport Unit) agreed to WADA's proposal. The IOC announced this. The switch to the older model "should be seen as a preventative measure that guarantees the integrity of the doping control process at the Games," said WADA director Olivier Niggli. The “BEREG-KIT” model from the Swiss company Berlinger from 2016 is still in use by some anti-doping authorities around the world. All doping samples from Pyeongchang are analyzed in the WADA-approved laboratory in Seoul. In the long term, WADA will work with Berlinger to develop solutions for the future. "All of these measures are being introduced to ensure that athletes continue to have confidence in the anti-doping system," said Niggli. According to the Heidelberg sports lawyer Michael Lehner, trust remains shaken even after the return to the old system. “The ARD documentary clearly showed that the old containers can be copied without any problems. This measure does not solve all the problems,” Lehner told the SID. Last week, research by the ARD doping reaction showed the safety problem with the test bottles called “BEREG-KIT Geneva”. The latest generation of high-tech bottles could be opened repeatedly and even counterfeited without any visible traces. This would open the door to manipulation.
