World Cup Rabenstein: Rainer and Zwerger in the final - UPDATE

In the men's category, 63 athletes from 17 nations took part. Climbing took place on two routes - the top nine in each case advanced to the semi-finals, which will begin on Sunday at 8 a.m. Maxim Tomilov achieved the best performance on the first route. He got to the top and only needed 4.42 minutes. The winner of the World Cup in Saas Fee qualified together with the Austrian Markus Bendler, the two South Koreans Jung Hee Han and Hee Yong Park, as well as Yevgeni Kryvosheytsev (Ukraine), Ivan Lyulykin, Alexey Dengin, Alexey Vagin (all Russia) and Simon Duverney- Guichard from France for the semi-finals.

A total of eleven athletes completed the second route, but only nine of them were able to qualify for the semi-finals on Sunday. Mauro Dorigatti, who started for AVS Südtirol, fell by the wayside in tenth place. In return, Luttacher Herbert Klemm confidently made it into the semi-finals in third place. World champion Alexey Tomilov reached the end of the route fastest.

The Russian was on top after 4.38 minutes. Furthermore, Chang Hyon Lee (South Korea), Nikolay Kuzovlev, Sergey Tarasov, Andrey Volkhontsev, Vasily Terekhin (all Russia), Mincho Petkov (Bulgaria) and Valentyn Sypavin will fight for a place in the final on Sunday.

The finalists for women have already been determined

The women climbed twice in the difficulty discipline on Saturday. After the qualification, which was contested by 26 athletes, the semi-finals also took place in the afternoon. There, Angelika Rainer from Meran, the three-time world champion from Meran, achieved the best performance and confidently qualified for the final.

Barbara Zwerger from Bolzano will also be in action there on Sunday from 13 p.m. Woon Seon Shin (Korea), Maria Tolkonina, Liudmila Balyan, Anna Gallyamova and Maryam Filippova (all Russia) and Lucie Hrozova (Czech Republic) also achieved this.

Pavel Gulyaev and Maria Krasavina are the first World Cup winners from Rabenstein

On Saturday, the first winners of the South Tyrolean Ice Climbing World Cup stage were crowned in the Passeier Valley. In the speed discipline, where the aim is to climb the ice tower as quickly as possible, the Russians Pavel Gulayev and Maria Krasavina prevailed and underlined the supremacy of the largest country in the world in this discipline.

The fastest time in an exciting speed final was achieved by Pavel Gulyaev, who needed 11,67 seconds to cover 15 meters on the ice tower. World champion Alexey Tomilov came second in 12,65 seconds, ahead of Egor Trapeznikov, for whom the stopwatch stopped after 12,76 seconds. All three speed climbers come from Russia, who have been setting the tone in speed climbing for years. Only last weekend was the Dutchman Dennis Van Hoek able to break through the phalanx and sensationally take victory in Saas Fee. In Rabenstein, the tall Dutchman finished fourth.

There was also a Russian triple success among the women. Maria Krasavina relegated Julia Oleynikov and Maryam Filippova to their places. Krasavina, who was already ahead in Saas Fee a week ago, had a winning time of 15,79 seconds. With this time she would have finished 12th among men. A South Tyrolean speed climber did not take part in this discipline.

Difficulty climbing: Finals on Sunday at 13 p.m

The Ice Climbing World Cup continues on Sunday with the semi-finals in men's difficult climbing. This starts at 8.15:13 a.m. Herbert Bracke from Luttach was able to qualify for the semi-finals and will fight for a place in the finals. The finals for women and men – always in the “supreme discipline” of difficulty climbing – are scheduled for XNUMX p.m. Two South Tyroleans are taking part here: Barbara Zwerger and three-time world champion Angelika Rainer.
