Alexander Weis is in the quarterfinals of Tabarka

The 22-year-old from Bolzano defeated the Italian Simone Roncalli in three sets 5:7, 6:2, 6:3 in the round of XNUMX on Thursday afternoon. In the doubles, Weis even reached the semi-finals with the Argentinian Arreche.

This means that the South Tyrolean is in the quarter-finals for the second time this season, having already made it to the last eight in Santa Margherita di Pula on Sardinia at the beginning of April. After his three-set opening win against the number 2 seeded Swiss Jakub Paul, Weis met the Italian Simone Roncalli, who is ranked 251 in the ITF world rankings, in the round of XNUMX today.

The match was very even at the beginning. From Roncalli's point of view, both players took the service once until the score was 6:5. In the 12th game it was the Milanese who broke Weis to win the set 7:5.

The Bolzano player then dominated the game. Weis took his opponent's serve twice, played strong tennis and secured the second period 6:2. Weis remained the stronger player in the third, decisive set and secured the break in the seventh game to take a 4:3 lead. After 2:57 hours of play, the South Tyrolean, always on the service of Roncalli, converted his first match point to make the final score 6:3.

In the quarterfinals on Friday, Weis will face Argentina's Nicolas Alberto Arreche (ITF 396). The two players now know each other very well, as they are playing doubles together this week.

Already in the semi-finals in doubles Weis and Arreche even made it into the doubles semi-finals that evening. The duo beat Majed Kilani (TUN)/Yassir Kilani (MAR) in the super tiebreak with 3:6, 7:5, 10:4. For Weis it is already the 10th ITF doubles semi-final in his career. The native of Bolzano and Arreche will meet the Brits Toby Martin and Barnaby Smith in the semi-finals.
