Andreas Seppi is back: tournament victory in Biella!

As of this Monday, Seppi will be one of the best 100 tennis players in the world for the first time in around five months. The 37-year-old owes his jump in the ranking to his confident 6:2, 6:1 in the final of the hard court tournament in Piedmont against Briton Liam Broady. An impressive detail on the side: This Sunday Seppi was in a Challenger final for the 10th time in his career and for the 10th time he left the field as a winner. The last of his previous 9 tournament victories dates back to late summer 2019 in Cary, USA. In addition to his Challenger successes, Seppi was also crowned champion in the much more important ATP tournaments in Moscow, Belgrade and Eastbourne in 2011 and 2012. Rarely, however, was Kalterer (ATP 107) as superior in a final as in this showdown with Broady (ATP 170). He was a real force when serving and hardly made any mistakes in the short rallies on the fast indoor surface in Biella. The most competitive was the first game, which lasted almost 10 minutes and which the Brit was just able to win on his own serve in the end. He had to give up the next service a little later to make it 2-1 for Seppi. As a result, there was no stopping him: When the score was 4:2, he landed the next break and closed the set a little later with 6:2. 6.190 prize money Seppi didn't let himself be thrown off track in the second round, when Broady landed several good points and provided a touch of pressure. At this point, the Überetscher was already 2-0 up with a break. Another one followed shortly afterwards when the score was 3-1 - so the game was de facto decided. After just 71 minutes of play the score was 6:2, 6:1 set in stone. Seppi sweetened his tournament victory with prize money of 6.190 euros and 80 ATP points. With these he will move up to 96th place in the updated world rankings on Monday.
