Andreas Seppi is in the quarter-finals in Val Gardena

Andreas Seppi shot the match at the Sparkasse ATP Challenger Val Gardena on Thursday evening on the Center Court in Ortisei and made it to the quarter-finals to the cheers of 500 fans. After a 0:3 deficit in the third set, Seppi won against Salvatore Caruso 2:22 (6), 7:6, 6:4 after 6:4 hours.

The tennis professional from Kalter didn't get into the match well and needed a set to understand how he had to return against Caruso. When Seppi made the break to 5:5, he seemed to have the game under control. Caruso still won the tiebreak 8:6. In the second set, Seppi's reaction didn't take long to arrive. He took a 4-0 lead, but when he conceded a break, the superiority was gone. Nevertheless, the 33-year-old was able to win the second set 6:4. In the third round, Caruso started strong and took a 3-0 lead. Andreas Seppi countered with 4:3, but had to accept another break. Seppi needed another break to make it 5:4 in order to be able to stay out afterwards.

On Friday at 19 p.m. Seppi will play in the quarterfinals against wildcard player Matteo Donati, whom he defeated 6:3, 7:5 in their only duel to date three years ago in Val Gardena. Donati knocked defending champion Stefano Napolitano out of the tournament.

“I'm glad I won. I always tried to stick with it, even when I was behind. But I have to improve against Donati if I want to get to the semi-finals,” said Seppi immediately after the match.

Before Andreas Seppi's match, a second qualifier, Marc Sieber from Germany, qualified for the quarter-finals. The world number 394 surprisingly beat number 6 seed Dustin Brown 2:6, 7:6 (2), 7:6 (5). Brown lost a game in which he didn't have to fend off a single break point in the entire match. Sieber was rewarded for his fighting spirit and celebrated a prestigious victory.

On Friday, the German will face number 4 seed Pierre-Hugues Herbert from France.

It wasn't a gala performance by the Kalteren tennis professional Andreas Seppi against Salvatore Caruso from Sicily, Seppi had to work hard to reach the quarter-finals. After almost two and a half hours, the game ended 7:6, 6:4 and 6:4.
