Andreas Seppi is in the final in Metz - UPDATE

Andreas Seppi, who was brilliant for long stretches, continues to cause a sensation in Metz. With a spectacular comeback against former top ten player Gael Monfils, he secured his place in the final of an ATP tournament for the third time this season. Most recently he had to admit defeat in the final against Andy Roddick in Eastbourne, and a few months earlier he won a tournament in Belgrade. There are also two further finals in 2011 (victory in Eastbourne) and 2007 (defeat in Gstaad).

In the final in Metz on Sunday, Seppi will face number one seed Jo-Wielfried Tsonga. He prevailed in the second semi-final against Nikolay Davydenko 6:0, 3:6, 6:4. In the direct duels, the French local hero leads 2-1. Tsonga had two wins in 2011, while Seppi's only success came in 2008. Regardless of the outcome of the final, the Überetscher can already look forward to 37.860 euros in prize money and 150 ATP points.

Based on the performances shown so far, the world number 28 from South Tyrol can definitely be expected to make it to the tournament title. Although he got off to a slow start in the semi-final against Monfils and had to clearly lose the first set 3:6. The 28-year-old then found his way back on track and offered his usual safe tennis, with which he has been causing fear and terror among his opponents in Metz for days. In the second set, Seppi didn't give up a single serve game and ultimately won it confidently 6:1. The preliminary decision was made when the score was 2:2 in the third set, when Seppi took serve from his rival and increased it to 4:2 a little later. After an hour and 42 minutes of play, with the score at 5:4, he finally scored his first match point.

In the four previous meetings with Monfils, Seppi has always been left behind, most recently at the tournament in Tokyo two years ago.

Andreas Seppi is in the final in Metz - UPDATE

The Kalterer is one step away from his third ATP tournament victory! On Saturday afternoon he beat Gael Monfils with a three-set win at the 450.000 euro “Moselle Open” and secured his place in the final. It was his 200th victory in the ATP circus.
