Andreas Seppi missed the semi-finals in Florida

One day after his 35th birthday, Seppi had to admit defeat to British qualifier Daniel Evans 1:28, 4:6 after 4:6 hours of play.

After his two opening victories against the Australians Bernard Tomic (ATP 85) and Jordan Thompson (ATP 68), Seppi reached an ATP quarter-final in Delray Beach for the 67th time in his career. Here on Friday he met 28-year-old Brit Daniel Evans, who was ranked 2017st in the world before his one-year doping ban for cocaine in October 41. After this ban, the Brit fell far behind. He had now worked his way back up to 148th place. In the starting round, Evans knocked defending champion Frances Tiafoe (ATP 29) out of the competition.

The Brit also started extremely strong against Seppi and took the lead with two breaks 3:0 and 5:2. The Kalterer player then got into the game better and was able to reduce the score to 4:5, but it was no longer enough to equalize. After 40 minutes, Evans took the first set 6-4 on his own serve.

The second half of the game was similar. Evans got off to a better start again, taking Seppi's serve in the third game and taking the lead 3:1 and 5:3. This time too, the Kalterer reduced the score to 4:5, but then Evans served again to make it 6:4.

Seppi returns to the top 50 in the world For Seppi, the tournament in Florida ends with almost $19.000 in prize money ($16.270 for the singles quarterfinals and $2.615 for the doubles) and 45 ATP points, with which he will return to the top 50 in the world next week. From Monday, the Kalterer player will play the ATP 500 tournament in Acapulco.
