Andreas Seppi wants to return stronger than before

The clay court season in Europe is already in full swing, but Andreas Seppi has not yet set foot on the red earth. At the end of March, he suffered a foot injury, more specifically a fracture of a metatarsal bone, in the second round of the hard court tournament in Miami. That's why the Kalterer has to take a break for the next three weeks. “Due to the injury, my movements are very limited. The doctors have prescribed absolute rest for me for the next 15 days so as not to put unnecessary strain on my foot." explains Seppi, who has set out his training plan accordingly: "I'm training my upper body and doing special exercises, but I can't even think about running at the moment think."

The injury hits Seppi in a phase of the season that he particularly prefers, as he has shown his skills several times in recent years at the start of the clay court tournaments in Europe. The 27-year-old Überetscher was correspondingly disappointed after the diagnosis: “For me, this is really the worst time to stop playing tennis. From experience, these are my best months of the year. But the season is still long and I will give everything to be able to play again at the tournament in Madrid. If this doesn't work, I will focus all my attention on the ATP tournament in Rome. This has a special meaning for me because Rome has a special appeal and is extremely popular with all athletes. It also serves as optimal preparation for Roland Garros."

While waiting for his full recovery, Seppi draws an initial interim conclusion: “I can be largely satisfied with how the season has gone so far. Although the results weren't exactly great, I dare to say that I definitely improved my performance compared to previous seasons. Only in Dubai and Indian Wells would I have achieved significantly more. But the tournament victory in Bergamo gave me a big boost and makes me very confident about the tasks ahead."

Knapp and Co. in action

While Seppi remains out of action, South Tyrol's tennis players are returning to the international stage. Karin Knapp has registered for the $10.000 tournament in Pomezia, where she will face the Russian Marina Shamayko in the first round. Julia and Evelyn, on the other hand, are number two and number five respectively in the main field of the $10.000 tournament in Bol, Croatia.

Matthias Wolf, on the other hand, has already completed his campaign: The Burggräfler lost to the Austrian Bertram Steinberger 6:2 and 6:3 in the qualifying round of the Future tournament in Vercelli.
