Angelique Kerber misses Wimbledon final

Barty will face Czech Karolina Pliskova in the final this Saturday in London. The 25-year-old Barty is looking to win her second Grand Slam title after her success at the 2019 French Open. Nine years after her first semi-final at Wimbledon, Kerber had her chances, especially with a 5-2 lead in the second set. The 33-year-old from Kiel wanted to reach her fifth final at one of the four Grand Slam tournaments. In 2016 she won the Australian Open and the US Open and lost to Serena Williams at Wimbledon. Two years later she got her revenge there against the Americans. Pliskova follows Barty into the final The Czech Karolina Pliskova will face tennis world number one Ashleigh Barty from Australia in the women's final at Wimbledon on Saturday. The 29-year-old Pliskova defeated Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus 5:7, 6:4, 6:4 on Thursday. The 23-year-old was number two in London. For former world number one Pliskova, it is the second final in one of the four Grand Slam tournaments. In 2016 she lost the final against Angelique Kerber at the US Open. The Kiel native previously lost in the first Wimbledon semi-final 3:6, 6:7 (3:7) against Barty, who is aiming for her second Grand Slam title after winning the French Open in 2019.
