It has been almost exactly two years since Andreas Seppi reached a doubles semi-final on the ATP tour. On October 5, 2013, the Überetscher teamed up with Fabio Fognini in Beijing against first-seeded Daniel Nestor (CAN) and Leander Paes (IND) with 3:6, 7:5 and 10:8.

In the duel with Marcin Matkowski from Poland and his Serbian partner Nenad Zimonjic, Seppi/Marrero had to fend off a break point in the first set when the score was 4:4 before they finally pulled away to 5:4. The decision was finally made three games later, with the score at 5:5, when the Kalterer and his Spanish partner managed to break to 6:5. Seppi/Marrero then served to win the set.
