ATP Challenger Val Gardena: Five South Tyroleans qualify

ATP supervisor Carmelo Di Dio drew the pairings this evening with OK President Ellis Kasslatter and tournament director Ambros Hofer. Qualification begins on Saturday at 10.00 a.m. In the third match, i.e. in the early afternoon, the first South Tyrolean will be in action: Jonas Ciechi from St. Ulrich will start off against number 366 in the world and 6th seed, Kevin Krawietz from Germany. Immediately afterwards, Erwin Tröbinger from Wokenstein has to play against the Russian Ivan Davydov. Pietro Fellin from Brixen meets the Swiss Yann Marti after Tröbinger's match.

Michael Kerschbaumer from Brixen from TC St. Christina-Wolkenstein was unlucky in the draw, as he has to compete against the number 2 seeded Italian and former Val Gardena semi-finalist Matteo Viola (ATP 281). This match was scheduled as the sixth game after 10.00 a.m., at the same time his teammate Patric Prinoth will face Frenchman Laurent Lokoli. The four players from TC St. Christina-Wolkenstein were already in action at their home tournament in qualifying last year. The Italian Andrea Arnaboldi, number 216 in the world and number 1 in the qualification, will face Augusto Virgili in the all-Italian duel, while the Pole Michal Przysiezny, who won the first edition in Val Gardena eight years ago, will face the Croatian Antonio Sacic.

To get into the main draw, which starts on Monday, three wins are needed. The Kalteren tennis star Andreas Seppi is already in the main draw. The world number 86 is seeded number 3 in Val Gardena and will play for the first time on Tuesday at 18.00 p.m. Patrick Prader also plays in the main draw. The 31-year-old Barbian benefited from the rejection of Australian wild card player Thanasi Kokkinakis and slipped into the main field in his place.
