ATP Finals: Djokovic and Ruud in the final

The top favorite from Serbia defeated the American Taylor Fritz 1:53(7), 6:5(7) in the semi-finals on Saturday after 6:6 hours. He is now in his eighth “Masters” final and is hoping for his sixth title. This would bring him level with record holder Roger Federer.

“I had to fight to survive. "I didn't feel very comfortable," Djokovic admitted on the court. "After yesterday's long match, I knew that I would need some time to find the dynamic movement." The day before, Djokovic had faced Vienna- Winner Daniil Medvedev was only able to win 3:11 in the third set after 7:6 hours.

Last win seven years ago “I didn't start the second set well, he served the set,” said the 21-time major winner. “In these moments I still manage to step up a gear. It wasn't one of my best days, tennis-wise, but I'm glad I got through it."

Djokovic last won the Masters of the best eight players of the year seven years ago, and now he finally wants to strike again. “I am very motivated and hungry. There’s still one match left, hopefully I can win it.”

In the final, the 35-year-old “Djoker” will now face Casper Ruud as the favorite. The Norwegian fourth in the world rankings dominated the second semi-final against the Russian Andrey Rublev and ended the duel with a 6:2, 6:4 win. Ruud is in the final of the ATP Finals for the first time.

Maximum of 5th place in the world rankings As an undefeated champion, Djokovic could collect $4,74 million and secure 1.500 points for the ATP ranking. For comparison: there are 2.000 points for one of the four major titles. In the ATP rankings, this year's Wimbledon winner, although he did not receive any points, can improve to a maximum of fifth place even by winning the title. With another win, Ruud would move up to second place in the rankings.
