ATP Masters Paris: Federer goes full throttle against Seppi - Val Gardena canceled

Seppi cancels his home tournament

Immediately after the two-set defeat against Federer, the organizers of the ATP Challenger in Val Gardena announced that Andreas Seppi had canceled his participation due to injury. This means that the Kalterer will not be able to defend his title at the home tournament and will end the season prematurely.

“Unfortunately, I’m not feeling really well physically at the moment. I still have slight problems in my right foot and pain in my hip again,” Seppi is quoted as saying in an official press release from the organizers. In the last few weeks, the South Tyrolean tennis professional has hardly ever been able to train and has actually only played the matches. At the end of April, Seppi had to have an infiltration in his hip and then take a break for a few weeks. “ That's why it's with a heavy heart that I decided to end the season today. Of course, I'm also sorry for my many fans that I can't aim for a hat trick of victory at my home tournament in Val Gardena. But after a break, I don't want to jeopardize the start of the 2016 season and be there at the Australian Open."

We have two top 100 players and an absolute crowd favorite in the form of the German Dustin Brown. I am sure that Andreas will come back next year to win his third title at the home tournament.”

It is not yet clear who the organizers' wild card, which was reserved for Andreas Seppi, will go to. “The news of Andreas’ cancellation is still too fresh. We will probably only award the wild card at very short notice,” says tournament director Wolfgang Wanker.
