ATP Metz: Difficult lot for Andreas Seppi

The 33-year-old from Kaltern will be hitting the ATP 250 tournament in Metz, France, next week. Seppi had no luck in the draw because he will face host Gilles Simon, number 8 on the seed list and 43 in the world, right at the start.

Simon feels particularly comfortable in Metz, he has already won the “Moselle Open” twice, in 2010 and 2013. Simon is the clear favorite against Seppi, and the Frenchman is still unbeaten against the Kalterer man on the tour. Simon won all five direct duels: in 2006 he prevailed in both Valencia and Palermo, two years later he won in Lyon and in the semi-finals of the Eastbourne grass tournament in 2013. The last match two years ago at the Masters 1000 in Canada also went to Simon 6:2, 6:4.

Seppi is taking part in the tournament in Metz for the eighth time. He achieved his best result in 2012 when he lost in the final against the then number 7 in the world, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Previously he was able to eliminate Ivan Dodig, Florian Mayer and Gael Monfils, among others. Last year he was eliminated at the start against the Ukrainian Illya Marchenko in the tiebreak of the third set after two missed match points.

In doubles with Bolelli against Benneteau-Roger-Vasselin Seppi also competes in the doubles in Metz. Here too he had no luck, because in the first round he and his compatriot Simone Bolelli met the number 3 seeded Frenchmen Julien Benneteau/Edoard Roger-Vasselin.
