ATP Moscow: Andreas Seppi fails in the semi-finals against Kukushkin

As is so often the case, Seppi didn't get off to an optimal start. When the score was 1:2, the Kalterer player gave up his serve for the first time with a double fault. Kukushkin also won the following three games and scored the first set point after 25 minutes to make it 6-1.

It took the 29-year-old Kalterer just as long to win the second set. In the second period, Seppi really turned up the heat and moved to 5-0 with two breaks before Kukushkin made it 1-5 on his own serve. The Kalter native didn't let that deter him. He got the following four points and won the second set 6:1. The decision had to be made in the third set.

There the tide turned again. Seppi took a 1-0 lead right at the start with a break, but the Russian native managed the re-break straight away. As a result, the South Tyrolean fell behind 1:4, but then secured the next eight points in a row and broke to make it 3:4.

In the following game it was Kukushkin who took Seppi's serve again, but the Kalterer reacted and used the first break point in the next game to make it 4:5. However, the Kazakh qualifier was determined to leave the Central Court in Moscow as a winner and really got going again in the last game. He didn't give up a point and took advantage of the first match point. With his fourth break in the third set, Kukushkin was the winner after an hour and 38 minutes.

For defending champion Seppi, the Kremlin Cup is history. In Moscow he won 90 ATP points and prize money of $38.460.
