Andreas Seppi also made a false start

As a reminder: The tournament was actually supposed to take place in Canberra, but due to the bushfires in Australia it was moved to Bendigo, around 620 kilometers to the west. Seppi had enjoyed a bye in the first round and only entered the tournament in the second round. However, his appearance was not very long: against the Chinese Zhe Li (ATP 1), the Kalterer (ATP 2) went into the field as the favorite, but had to accept a 209:71, 6:3, 5:7 defeat.

In the first set, Seppi, who played his first game since the end of October on Wednesday night, presented himself flawlessly and took serve from the 33-year-old Chinese in the 8th game. As a result, he won the set 6:3. In the second set, both players initially served flawlessly - even if Seppi had to fend off a break ball. When the score was 2:5 from Kalterer's point of view, Li was given another break chance and used it to win the set.

Another tournament to prepare for So the 3rd set had to decide. Here Seppi started strong and promptly took advantage of a break chance to make it 2-1, but immediately gave up his own service. An exciting game developed in which Seppi lost his strength towards the end, which is why he received a break when the score was 4:5 and thus lost the game.

Andreas Seppi will now fall behind Jannik Sinner (ATP 78) in the world rankings. Before the Kalterer tackles the Australian Open (from January 20th), he will most likely play the ATP tournament in Adelaide next week.
