Opening victory: Seppi only weakened briefly at Wimbledon

After exactly 2 hours and 25 minutes it was clear: Andreas Seppi will complete the 5nd round on the Holy Lawn in Wimbledon for the 2th time in a row! At the start, the world number 73 finished. the clearly better positioned Chilean Nicolas Jarry (ATP 53) with 6:3, 6:7 (8:10), 6:1, 6:2.

The start of the first round game went exactly to the taste of the 35-year-old veteran from South Tyrol, who pulled away with a break to 4:2 and archived the first set after just 1 minutes of play.

Double fault leads to tiebreak loss After that, things got really tricky for the first and last time: After each losing a serve, Seppi and his opponent had to go into a tiebreak. The Kalterer finally gave up the score after a double fault with 8:10. As the game progressed, Seppi's double mistakes in service would add up to 5, but from then on he was clearly superior in terms of play.

In the third set there was finally no stopping coach Max Sartori's protégé. Once again he only needed 3 minutes to quickly make it 26:6 and at the same time set the course for round 1. He finally won the 2th set 4:6 without much trouble.

It is a first victory for Seppi, as he clearly lost out in his only duel with Jarry eight months ago in Winston Salem. The second round at Wimbledon is now routine for the Kalterer oldie. This victory marks the 8th time he has survived the start of the traditional tournament just outside London; six years ago he even made it to the round of 2. Seppi meets Pella in round 2 In the fight for a third round ticket, the Überetscher will compete with the Argentinian Guido Pella (ATP 26). Pella beat the Romanian Marius Copil (ATP 88) in 4 sets with 7:6 (13:11), 5:7, 6:3 and 6:4. Pella and Seppi will play against each other for the first time in their careers on Wednesday.

Seppi also competes in the doubles competition at the world's most important tennis tournament. With Marco Cecchinato he will face the Dutch-Romanian duo of Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau in the first round.
