From the dream: Seppi loses the final

Andreas Seppi has won an ATP tournament three times in his 17-year professional career: in Eastbourne in 2011, and in Belgrade and Moscow in 2012. The Kalterer competed in his last final in Halle in 2015 - but just like now in Sydney, it wasn't enough to win back then. Instead, local hero Alex De Minaur, who was born in Sydney, celebrated in the Australian metropolis. The child prodigy (born in 1999 and number 29 in the world) defeated Seppi in two sets with 7:5 and 7:6 (7:5) in the tie-break.

Good start from Seppi Right at the start of the game, Seppi took the serve from the young Australian. Because Seppi got through his first serve game, the Kalterer player quickly took a 2-0 lead in the first set. As a result, De Minaur seemed to strike back, but when Seppi was on the brink in the fourth game, the Australian also made simple mistakes.

Nevertheless, the 19-year-old, who trained a lot in Spain as a teenager and has a Spanish coach, was only able to catch up. Seppi allowed the break to make it 3-3 and De Minaur, cheered on by the home crowd, got better and better into the match. Although he subsequently missed three set points, De Minaur finally took the first set 7:5 - Seppi atone for the many mistakes he made. De Minaur grabs the home win In the second set, both Seppi and De Minaur initially showed no weakness. Although Seppi's rate of first successful serves was very weak (less than 45 percent in the first set), the Kalterer didn't allow any breaks. In return, Seppi took the serve game from the young Australian to make it 4:3. But as won, so lost: In return, De Minaur managed the re-break to make it 4:4. Finally, the second set went into a tie-break, where Seppi was already in the lead 4-2. But then the Kalterer player gave up the lead again. De Minaur made a double fault, but in the end he grabbed the tie-break 7:5. De Minaur not only grabbed the second set, but also the victory at the ATP tournament in Sydney. It was De Minaur's first victory in his young career - and of all places in his hometown.

Seppi continues at the Australian Open, where he will be in the 1st round to Steve Johnson from the USA meets.

Nothing came of Andreas Seppi's fourth ATP tournament victory. The Kalterer lost the final in Sydney against Alex De Minaur in a tie-break. The local hero celebrated the first tournament victory of his young career.
