Australian Open: Seppi also has to give up

On Tuesday night, the Kalterer lost to Pablo Cuevas (ATP 72) after 2:22 hours of play in four sets with 4:6, 6:4, 2:6 and 2:6. This means that Seppi's 63rd Grand Slam tournament is history again for him.

In particular, the start was suboptimal from Seppi (ATP 108), who is struggling with hip problems. The South Tyrolean suffered two breaks right at the start of the first round and was 0-3 behind. Afterwards, Seppi managed the re-break to make it 1:3, but Cuevas subsequently held his serve and won the first set 6:4. Seppi returns in the second set In the second set, Seppi got going better and mostly had few problems getting through his own serve game. When the score was 5:4, the Überetscher took advantage of his only break opportunity and used his first set point to make it 6:4.

But his competitor from Uruguay, who is also very experienced at 35, didn't let this upset him and took Seppi's second serve game in the third set. In the fourth round, Seppi tried everything again to turn the game in his favor. But Cuevas took the service from him when the score was 2:2 and thus ensured a preliminary decision in the game. Seppi then suffered another break and ultimately had to admit defeat in four sets. What's next for Seppi? Seppi, who will slip back a few positions in the ATP rankings, is now returning to Europe. The Kalterer is registered at the ATP tournament in Montpellier (February 22nd to 28th). But first he will discuss with his doctor what options there are for the future.
