Australian Open: Knapp and Minella move into the second round

After Karin Knapp had to withdraw yesterday due to an injury in the opening singles match against the Chinese Su-Wei Hsieh, the 29-year-old from Ahrntal was in action in the doubles at the Australian Open in Melbourne on Wednesday morning. Karin Knapp and her partner, Luxembourg's Mandy Minella, won their first round match against the English pairing of Heather Watson/Naomi Broady in three sets 7:5, 2:6, 7:6(5). The hard-fought game lasted 2:10 hours.
