Becker rejects speculation: “I feel very comfortable at the DTB”

Came (SID) During a visit to the tennis center in Kamen, Westphalia, Boris Becker rejected speculation about being involved in the team of world number five Alexander Zverev. “I like him a lot, he is very talented, but I feel very comfortable in my position at the German Tennis Association,” said Becker. A dual role is out of the question for the three-time Wimbledon winner, who has been working on a voluntary basis as "Head of Men's Tennis" for the DTB since August 2017: "This discussion is not an option for me," said Becker, "I have my tasks in television and in DTB. That fits together very well." Becker had already stated on Friday that he would only see Zverev again at the Masters in Miami (from March 19th). It was previously announced that Zverev had separated from his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero after just seven months. The Spanish sports daily Marca reported that Becker will look after the German hopeful in the coming months. "The speculation doesn't come from just anywhere, you'll see me around him at the next tournaments, but I have my hat on at the DTB," said Becker. Zverev's manager Patricio Apey had already told the Bild newspaper on Friday: "There are no plans to bring someone new in immediately. It may happen that someone will help in an advisory capacity at some point, but there are currently no plans." As before, Zverev is being trained by his father Alexander senior, and next week the 20-year-old will be playing at the ATP tournament in Acapulco, Mexico.
