Cervia and Rizzi win the Raiffeisen Grand Prix in Eggen

The winner of the men's tournament, the 4.1 player Giacomo Cervia comes from Liguria and works as a tennis teacher in Auer. In a high-class and very even final, he defeated Fabio Francia from Bolzano in three sets 6:2, 4:6, 6:2. Francia was the big surprise of the tournament. After being one of the strongest young players in our country in the 90s, he retired from active tennis and celebrated a sensational comeback in Eggen after a 19-year break (!). After nine wins in qualification and in the main draw, he only had to admit defeat in his 10th match in the Cervia final. In the quarterfinals, Francia defeated the number 2 seed, Giovanni Mich from Cavalese, 6:3, 6:4, and in the semifinals he beat Algunder Gerry Mayr 6:1, 6:2. Cervia, on the other hand, eliminated qualifier Francesca Zanna from Predazzo in three hard-fought sets in the quarter-finals and then defeated host Markus Pichler 6:3, 6:1 in the semi-finals. In the women's race, the victory went to 30-year-old Valentina Rizzi from Vigo, who competes for TC Moena. In the quarterfinals she advanced without a fight against top-seeded Rittner Viktoria Daccordo (she couldn't compete because of an exam at the University of Innsbruck), then she won against Consuelo Chelodi, the sister of hockey players Armando and Enrico, 7:5, 6:1. In the final she clearly defeated Rungger Simona Sedlak 6:1, 6:1. Miss South Tyrol 1994, Verena Profanter, also took part in the tournament, but was eliminated in the quarterfinals against Doris Niedermayr.

Cervia and Rizzi win the Raiffeisen Grand Prix in Eggen

Around 100 players from the 4th category took part in the 9th Raiffeisen Grand Prix tournament in Eggen last week. In the men's race, top favorite Giacomo Cervia from TC Auer prevailed, while the women's victory went to Valentina Rizzi from TC Moena.
