Claudia Giovine wins ITF tournament in Ortisei

Giovine, current world ranking 438. and number 1 in Ortisei, had eliminated Verena Hofer from Val Gardena in the quarter-finals. With the Russian Maria Marfutina she also reached the doubles final on Friday, but they lost to the Czechs Klara Hajkova/Aneta Laboutkova. On Saturday, Giovine, cousin of former tennis star Flavia Penetta, secured the singles title. However, 17-year-old Anja Wildgruber got off to a better start, securing the first set with 6:4 points. The Azzurra then dominated the match. Giovine won the second period 6-1. She promptly took a 4-1 lead in the third set and, always on the service of Wildgruber, converted her first match point to make the final score 6-1.

Val Gardena was also a very successful week for her opponent Anja Wildgruber. The 17-year-old from Munich, who fought her way from qualifying to the final, reached an ITF final in St. Ulrich for the second time in her career. As was the case a month ago in Antalya, Wildgruber had to admit defeat in the final.

Claudia Giovine wins ITF tournament in Ortisei

Claudia Giovine won the $15.000 ITF Raiffeisen tournament in Ortisei on Saturday afternoon. The 29-year-old from Brindisi prevailed in the final after 1:33 hours of play against German qualifier Anja Wildgruber in three sets 4:6, 6:1, 6:1 and celebrated her 12th victory on the tour.
