After the perfectly organized “Corona Tournament” in November, the ATP players’ association made the organizers of the Sparkasse Challenger Val Gardena South Tyrol a financially tempting offer to host a Challenger at the beginning of 2021.

However, there will be no Challenger in the last week of March, which tournament director Ambros Hofer had planned. The traditional date in November has been confirmed. And OC boss Ellis Kasslatter is already dreaming of a duel between Jannik Sinner and Andreas Seppi on the final day at an exhibition match in Val Gardena.

OC boss Ellis Kasslatter adds: “In the current situation, it would have been difficult to ask our sponsors, who have supported us for 20 years, to support us again straight away. I hope they do it again in November in the tried and tested form.” The Sparkasse Challenger is currently planned for the week from October 30th to November 7th. Kasslatter is aware that South Tyrol's star Jannik Sinner will not be there. Just like Australian Open semi-finalist Aslan Karazew, who was a nobody in the semi-finals in Val Gardena three months ago.

But the OC boss has an idea as to how Jannik Sinner could be there at his home tournament after winning the tournament in 2019, “assuming spectators are allowed again.” Kasslatter has in mind a show fight between Sinner and Andreas Seppi. “This idea was already in the room last November. It would be something special if we could offer the South Tyrolean fans a duel between Sinner and Seppi on the Sunday after the tournament final.” This has already been discussed with Sinner’s management. 4 professional tournaments 2021 In Val Gardena they want to work together even more this year. A total of 4 professional tournaments are planned in the valley. It will start with an ITF tournament for men worth $15.000 in the last week of October in Wolkenstein, immediately before the Challenger.
