Davis Cup: Andreas Seppi equalizes to 1-1

Andreas Seppi showed a very solid and strong performance today in Astana in his 30th individual in the Davis Cup. Italy urgently needed this after Simone Bolleli's surprisingly clear defeat in the opening game against Mikhail Kukushkin (ATP 59). The world number 49 had to admit defeat to the Kazakh 6:7(6), 1:6, 2:6. Bolelli could only keep up in the first set. In the tiebreak he also missed two set points when the score was 6:4, but then collapsed completely.

Seppi got off to a very good start today. In the first game he took his opponent's serve and took the first set 37:6 after another break after 3 minutes. The second half of the game was identical. Seppi served well again and won again, after exactly 37 minutes, 6:3.

Golubev takes the third set In the third set, Golubev reacted, came into the game better and applied a lot of pressure, especially from the baseline. Suddenly the match was even and went into a tiebreak. Here the Kazakhs led 6:4. Seppi was able to fend off the first set point, but on the second he made an incredible mistake at the net and lost the tiebreak with 5:7 points.

Seppi dominates the fourth set Seppi didn't let his head down after that, on the contrary, he took the lead with a break in the fourth set. When the score was 3:2, he fended off a break point from the Kazakh and then moved ahead to 5:2. Then he took the serve from Golubev to make the final score 6:2. For Seppi it was the 16th individual victory in the Davis Cup, which brought the “Azzurri” back to 1:1.

Doubles tomorrow at 9 a.m Doubles continues on Saturday at 9 a.m. National coach Corrado Barazzutti has reported the Fabio Fognini/Paolo Lorenzi duo, but it is quite possible that he will field Simone Bolelli instead of Lorenzi. The Australian Open winners Bolelli/Fognini are certainly the favorites tomorrow. Andreas Seppi will meet again on Sunday. At 9 a.m. he plays against Mikhail Kukushkin.

Davis Cup: Andreas Seppi equalizes to 1-1

The 31-year-old from Kalter defeated Andrey Golubev in four sets in the Davis Cup quarter-finals of the World Group between Kazakhstan and Italy on Friday and equalized for the “Azzurri” to make it 1-1, as Simone Bolleli had previously played his match against Mikhail Kukushkin lost.
