Davis Cup: defending champions France and Croatia in the final

The “new edition” of the World Cup final will take place in France from November 23rd to 25th. It is the last Davis Cup game before the reform, which comes into force in 2019.

In Lille, the French doubles Julien Benneteau/Nicolas Mahut won their decisive third victory on Saturday against Marcel Granollers/Feliciano Lopez with 6:0, 6:4, 7:6 (9:7). Benoit Paire gave the French the lead on Friday with a 7:5, 6:1, 6:0 win over Pablo Carreno Busta in a quick win. The Spaniards, who defeated Germany in the quarter-finals and played in Lille without their superstar Rafael Nadal, who had a knee injury, also lost the second match: Lucas Pouille beat Roberto Bautista Agut 3:6, 7:6 (7:5) , 6:4, 2:6, 6:4 through. On Sunday, Nicolas Mahut lost the two meaningless final singles against Marcel Granollers and Richard Gasquet against Albert Ramos.

In Zadar, Mike Bryan and Ryan Harrison (USA) won the doubles against the hosts in a five-set thriller after 4:43 hours 7:5, 7:6 (8:6), 1:6, 6:7 (5:7 ), 7:6 (7:5) and shortened to 1:2. The Croatians led 2-0 after the first two singles. Borna Coric beat Steve Johnson 6:4, 7:6 (7:4), 6:3, Australian Open finalist Marin Cilic won against Davis Cup debutant Frances Tiafoe 6:1, 6:3, 7:6 ( 7:5).
