The 6th match point is there: Sinner's comeback has been successful

Jannik Sinner (ATP 250) had no problems at the start of the ATP 10 tournament in Umag. The man from Sexten went into the match as the favorite against the Spaniard Jaume Munar (ATP 59) and ultimately lived up to this role. After 1.56 hours, Sinner converted his 6th match point to make it 6:4, 6:4 and is now in the quarter-finals. The South Tyrolean enjoyed a bye in the first round. For Sinner, Wednesday was the first match on the tour since July 5th. Back then, he injured his ankle in the epic five-set fight against Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon and had to take a few days off. The 20-year-old showed no after-effects of the injury on Wednesday evening. Although the world number 10 largely failed to have any great moments of glory, Sinner did not yet have to produce his best tennis against Munar. Tough Spaniard annoys Sinner In the first set, both players promptly broke serve once. Only a brief initial nervousness, as the tennis aces subsequently showed no weaknesses in their own service. Until the 9th game, in which Sinner had a chance to break, which he took advantage of and was then able to pull away to 6:4. In the second round, Sinner gave up a serve himself, but got two breaks. Thus, South Tyrol's athlete of the year served to win the match - no easy task, as his Spanish opponent proved to be tough and wanted to avoid defeat by all means. He fended off no less than five match points. By the sixth time, however, there was no longer enough strength. Sinner is now in the quarter-finals, where he will face another Spaniard, Roberto Carballés Baena, on Friday. Sinner is favorite again against number 86 in the world.

Jannik Sinner returned to the ATP tour on Wednesday evening after his short injury break. In Umag on the Croatian Adriatic coast, the Sesto native celebrated an unchallenged victory.
