The Sinner coach and the special relationship with South Tyrol

Simone Vagnozzi spent almost a decade of his life in our country and he had a special connection to South Tyrol long before he became Jannik's coach in February.

It all started in the summer of 1995 when Massimo Sartori came to Kaltern. Andreas Seppi's permanent coach was supposed to make the dream of the then club boss Alex Vorhauser come true, who was convinced that even a village club could produce a world-class player. Which Seppi has also proven. Vagnozzi comes from Ascoli Piceno in the Marche. At youth tournaments he had become friends with Thomas Holzer, who had become U12 Italian champion in the same year and won the famous “Coppa Lambertenghi” in Milan. Holzer, number 2004 in the world in 795, was even considered a greater talent than Andreas Seppi when he was younger. The clique around Vittur, Seppi, Vagnozzi and Surian Like Holzer, Vagnozzi was also born in 1983 and was also one of Italy's best players in his age group. The two always played doubles together at tournaments. “Vagno” came to Kaltern several times in the summer for two weeks of training. Then Sartori asked if he wanted to train in Kaltern all the time. That was 2. Vagnozzi was 1999 and moved to Überetsch. He lived in Andreas Seppi's house on Friedhofsweg in Kaltern for 16 years. This resulted in a friendship for life. Vagnozzi was a year older than Seppi and he also won all 9 direct duels in satellite tournaments in 3 and 2001 against the Kalterer. Without losing a sentence at that. Vagnozzi has reached 2002st place in the world singles rankings in his career. That was in 161. In the doubles he reached the final with Seppi at the ATP tournament in Bastad in the summer of 2011. In 2010, today's Sinner consultant Alex Vittur joined the elite training group in Kaltern. Paolo Surian was part of this group, who are still close friends. Surian was also Andreas Seppi's best man. The boys still talk to each other on the phone regularly. At the beginning of the year there was a call from Vittur, but not to talk about everyday life and God and the world, as is so often the case. But to ask Vagnozzi whether he felt up to the challenge of becoming Jannik Sinner's new coach. Vagnozzi was ready because such an opportunity doesn't come along often in life. Vagnozzi knows that. After the good experiences with Marco Cecchinato and Stefano Travaglia, he is convinced that he can lead the Sesto team to the top. Vagnozzi still has a few words of German from his time in Kalter. And many wonderful memories. But Sinner had to explain the rules of wading to him again after so many years.
