Three South Tyroleans are in the main field in Telfs

Alexander Weis from Bolzano, who was seeded number 1 in the qualification, showed a strong performance. After the 20-year-old had a bye in the first round, he beat the Austrian Philip Aplienz 6:1, 6:2 and benefited from the forfeit on Sunday in the decisive third round with the score at 5:5 Sweden Jonathan Stenberg.

Another man from Bolzano, 17-year-old Manuel Bernard from TC Rungg, started his second ITF tournament with a 6-0, 6-0 win against local hero Daniel Marta and then shot down Frank Lukas 6-2, 6-1 Place. In the decisive match, Bernard retained the upper hand after three hard-fought sets against Markus Neuhauser 6:2, 3:6, 6:2.

Georg Winkler from Völs, also from TC Rungg, finally prevailed in round 1 against the Swiss Yanik Kälin 6:0, 7:6(2), then he defeated the Serbian Aleksa Daskalovic in two sets with 6:2, 7:6(3) before celebrating a three-set win (4:6, 6:4, 6:3) against Frenchman Mark Burgos in the decisive game.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, the three South Tyroleans will play their first round matches. Weis will face the Swiss Marc-Andrea Huesler (ATP 878), Bernard will face the Brit Toby Martin and Winkler will play against the Austrian wild card Jakob Aichhorn. Both Bernard and Winkler want to get their first ATP point with a win.

For Moritz Trocker from Völs and Erwin Tröbinger from Val Gardena, however, it was already over in the first qualifying round. Trocker lost against Tom Clavel from the Netherlands 3:6, 6:4, 3:6, while Tröbinger suffered a clear 2:6, 0:6 defeat against the Austrian Johannes Bangratz.

The 15-year-old Sebastian Brzezinski from TC Rungg celebrated his debut on the ITF tour in Telfs. After winning against the Swiss Frank Schnell 6:2, 6:2 at the start, he lost out against the Romanian Calin Manda 2:6, 5:7.

Horst Rieder from Völs, number 8 in the qualification, only had to defeat the Austrian Robin Peham 6:2, 6:4 in the third, decisive round after a bye and a 4:6, 1:6 win against Lorenzo Di Maro defeated and narrowly missed out on making it into the main draw.

Rieder also played doubles today with Manuel Bernard. In the first round, however, Rieder/Bernard lost 1:0, 6:0 to the number 6 seeded Austrians Lenny Hampel and Maximilian Neuchrist.

Jannik Sinner fails in Albinea

At the weekend, Jannik Sinner was back in action on the ITF tour after almost a year. At the $15.000 tournament in Albinea, the 15-year-old from Sesto was eliminated in the first qualifying round against the Italian Alessandro Dragoni 3:6, 2:6.

Verena Hofer in the peloton in Sharm El Sheikh

Verena Hofer, on the other hand, is already in the main field in Sharm El Sheikh. The 19-year-old from Val Gardena's first-round opponent has not yet been determined

For Verena Meliss, the $25.000 tournament in Darmstadt is already over. After a win without a fight against the German Shaline-Doreen Pipa, she narrowly lost to the Czech Klara Hajkova 6:7(4), 6:7(8) today and missed out on the main draw.

Seven South Tyrolean tennis players took part in the $15.000 ITF tournament in Telfs, Tyrol, at the weekend. With Alexander Weis, Manuel Bernard and Georg Winkler, three made it into the main field.
