A footballer final at the Terlan tennis tournament

While a 6th category tournament was held in the Etschtaler Weindorf over the past 4 years, this edition went one step further and included players with a 3.5 classification. With 132 participants (112 men and 20 women), the tournament was a complete success. The field was probably as strong as it was this year - in the men's table alone there were 29 players registered with the classification 4.1. On the men's side, Terlan's figurehead Christian Pircher defended his title as number 1 in the tournament and was able to defeat Dietmar Gurschler (SSV Naturns) in a high-class game in the round of 5 with 7:7, 5:6, 0:2. In the quarter-finals, Terlan's hopes came to a duel with teammate Florian Ausserer. At that point the latter already had eight games under his belt, in which he only played twelve (!) games. A real crime thriller developed in which Ausserer finally prevailed after around 40:6 hours of play with 1:4, 6:7 and 5:1. Pircher fought his way back into the game impressively after a 5:XNUMX in the third round and a match point fended off, before Ausserer made it clear that he had reached the semi-finals in extra time. Waiting for him there was number 4 seed Peter Gufler from ATC Partschins, who had previously beaten David Dima (Tennis Bauzanum) in the round of 16 and against Michael Bonell (Tennis Burgstall) in the quarter-finals: the local hero showed consistent attacking tennis throughout and moved into the final with a score of 6:2, 6:2. In the lower half of the table, tournament favorite Armin Mayr (Gries Football Club) defeated Filippo Battiston from TC Rungg in the round of 7 after an extremely complicated opening game (5:7, 5:XNUMX against Maximilian Eisendle) before beating a strong Klaus in the round of the last eight Gallmetzer (TG Unterland) was able to stop confidently. In the semi-finals, Mayr gave Alexander Figl (TC Kaltern) few chances and secured the final against his soccer teammate. Both Ausserer and Mayr are active for AFC Terlan in the national league. In the final, an intense battle of attrition developed with numerous close games - Mayr should secure the starting set 70:6 after around 4 minutes, after Ausserer had already led 3:1 and 4:3. The level remained high in the second round, but Mayr pulled away to 5:2 and a few minutes later raised his fist after winning 6:4, 6:3 and winning the 7th edition of the Terlan FIT tournament. Hellrigl wins the women's tournament In the women's tableau, the number 1 of the tournament, Sarah Hellrigl, prevailed in the semi-finals against the reigning national champion of the fourth category and Terlan hope, Sabine Stürz. Stefanie Vaia from ATC Tramin kept the upper hand in the bottom half of the round of the last four against number 2 seed Simona Sedlak (TC Rungg). In the final, Hellrigl impressed with her powerful game and secured her second title in the Weißweindorf after 6 with a 0:6, 3:75 over Vaia after around 2019 minutes of play. “I've been working hard for this tournament, this day for the last few months and played really well today. Only towards the end did I become unsure for a moment, but I finally got the game over with. Thanks to everyone involved for a well-organized tournament as always – it’s just fun in Terlan,” said Hellrigl in the winner’s interview after the end of the game.
