A Croatian triumphs in Val Gardena

On Sunday, Gojo (ATP 182) defeated the Slovakian Lukas Klein (ATP 163) in the final of the most important South Tyrolean tennis tournament with 1:25 (7:6) and 7:4 after 6:3 hours of play. The Croatian did not lose a set at the hard court tournament in the Runggaditsch hall. In the first set, both served with their serves, and Gojo finally prevailed in the tiebreak. In the second set, the 2-year-old Croatian finally managed the first break of the game in the 24th game to make it 6:4 - it was to be the only one. On his own serve, Gojo used the first match point of the game to make it 2:6. “I think I had more chances today.” Borna Gojo “This is an important victory for me, but not the biggest success because I played in the Davis Cup Finals last year,” explained the Croatian after the game. Regarding the final in Val Gardena, he said: “Luke is a great player who has played very well in the last few weeks, but I think I had more chances today. The surface here is a little faster than usual, which of course suits my service. I love it here in Val Gardena and was there last year. This time we arrived a few days earlier and were also in the mountains.” The organizers were also satisfied with the 13th edition of the Sparkasse Challenger. The tournament will be remembered primarily because it was the last tournament in Andreas Seppi's career. The man from Kaltern ended his career this week and is the only one to have won his home tournament twice (2013 and 2014).
