Italy's tennis aces better than ever before

For the first time, 1 Azzurri are in the top 10 of the world rankings. Gianluca Mager ultimately set the new record, moving from 100nd to 102st place with his victory at the Challenger tournament in Marbella. But the big headlines once again belonged to Sinner.

The 19-year-old is the second tennis player from Italy after Fabio Fognini to make it to the final of a Masters 1000 tournament. As a result, the young Pusterer has gained 8 places in the world rankings and now appears in 23rd place in the ATP computer - i.e. higher than ever before. 10 Azzurri in the top 100 Italy is one of four nations (along with France, Spain and the USA) to have double digits in the top 100. Only France and Spain (11 each) have more players in this ranking, with the Azzurri being younger on average. Half of Italy's top 100 players are under 27 years old (the same as the Americans). Sinner (born 2001) and Lorenzo Musetti (2002) in particular are predicted to have a great future. They are the only two teenagers in the top 100. Andreas Seppi (100th place) is also one of the best 96 tennis players in the world. To date, he holds the South Tyrolean all-time record (number 18 in the world rankings). The 37-year-old from Kalter has been among the top 100 again since his tournament victory at the Challenger in Biella (mid-March).

By the way, the best Italian in the world rankings is currently tenth-placed Matteo Berrettini. He was already ranked 8th in his career.
