A bearable defeat for Sinner

The 18-year-old from Sexten lost in the last group game to the Frenchman Ugo Humbert in four sets 3:4 (5), 4:3 (3), 2:4, 2:4 (the Next Gen Finals only play until 4) . However, this match was not of great importance for both players: Humbert, who had triumphed at the Challenger in Val Gardena last year, was already eliminated after two defeats at the start, while Sinner was already in the semi-finals after two wins.

There the Sesto native will meet the Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic on Friday at 21 p.m. Sinner (ATP 95) and the 20-year-old Eastern European (ATP 60) have never faced each other in their careers to date. Kecmanovic is a very unpleasant opponent who plays solid and flawless tennis. The spectators can look forward to a top match. In the second semi-final, however, the Australian tournament favorite Alex De Minaur (ATP 18) and the American Frances Tiafoe (ATP 47) face each other.

Humbert shows his class But about Thursday's game: Even before the game against Humbert, Sinner was combative: "I want to win the last group game too," said the Sexten native. However, the 18-year-old's fatigue was noticeable in the third match in three days. Outstanding phases often alternated with some lapses in concentration.

But the game was still very close. In the first set, Humbert prevailed in the tiebreak, Sinner did the same in the second set. In the third section, the Frenchman took the service from the Sesto player in the first service game and ultimately won 4-2. In the fourth set, Sinner missed a break chance and conceded the break himself shortly afterwards. Although Sinner fought bravely and fended off a match point, he had to admit defeat to Humbert, who was extremely strong today.
