Individual and team national champions awarded

Jannik Sinner from Sesto was particularly celebrated. The new South Tyrolean superstar was not present at the celebration, but his parents accepted a prize from the state committee. Weißensteiner also mentioned Andreas Seppi from Kalter, who was able to confirm himself in the top 100 again this year. The Überetscher began his 750th week in the top 100 of the ATP rankings on Monday.

Weißensteiner looks back on a successful season Weißensteiner thanked both of them for their outstanding achievements: “Seppi and Sinner showed our young players that with a lot of hard work and commitment you can also compete internationally.” In fact, in addition to Andreas Seppi (ATP 72) and Jannik Sinner (ATP 78), 8 other South Tyroleans have made it into the world rankings: Alexander Weis (ATP 628), Manfred Fellin (ATP 1064), Patric Prinoth (ATP 1829), Horst Rieder (ATP 1864), Georg Winkler and Moritz Trocker (both ATP 1938) for the men, Verena Meliss (WTA 496) and Verena Hofer (WTA 1010, but she ended her international career a few weeks ago) for the women. In addition, Marion Viertler from Schlanders, who made it to the final of the $15.000 tournament in Cairo on Saturday, will also appear in the WTA rankings in the coming weeks. “And almost all of them have improved compared to the previous year,” says Weißensteiner happily.

In total, the South Tyrolean Tennis Association has over 5.400 registered members in 80 clubs. Over 400 teams took part in the various championships this year and played over 1.200 matches. Weißensteiner is proud of the 5 international tournaments that are held in South Tyrol: the ATP Challenger in St. Ulrich, the two $25.000 ITF Futures in Bolzano and Rungg, the $15.000 tournament in St. Christina and the Women's ITF tournament in Ortisei.

All 2019 state champions were then honored. In the open category, Manuel Bernard from Bolzano, who has been studying at Troy University in Alabama since the beginning of the year, secured the national championship title, while Franziska Daum from Lana won in the women's category.

In the youth team championships, TC Rungg won 5 of the 7 titles awarded. The U16 girls from the Überetscher club then also took 4th place at the Italian Championships in Cervia.

Individual and team national champions awarded

The South Tyrolean tennis season officially ended with the traditional tennis festival on Saturday in the Hotel Sheraton in Bolzano. Tennis state president Richard Weißensteiner was able to welcome more than 200 guests, including the vice president of the national association, Roland Sandrin.
