Final stop quarter-finals for Alexander Weis

The 22-year-old from Bolzano was narrowly defeated by Spaniard Pol Martin Tiffon (ITF 355) 1:49, 6:3, 1:6 after 4:6 hours of play. Weis was then eliminated with the Austrian David Pichler in the doubles semi-finals against the Argentinians Nicolas Alberto Arreche/Franco Feitt.

Weis played his 6th singles quarterfinal on the ITF tour on Friday. After the opening victories against the Swiss Jakub Paul and the Argentinian Guido Ivan Justo, the man from Bolzano was eliminated against the Spaniard Pol Martin Tiffon, who was two years his junior. Weis got off to a better start and took the first set 6:3 points. In the second half of the game, the Spaniard took the South Tyrolean's serve twice to make it 6-1. The third set was exciting. In the seventh game, Pol Martin Tiffon managed the decisive break to make it 4:3. With the score at 5:3 for the Spaniard, Weis fended off two match points and reduced the score to 4:5. After that, Pol Martin Tiffon left no stone unturned and used his fourth match point to make the final score 6:4.

Weis and his Austrian partner David Pichler were eliminated in the doubles semifinals late in the afternoon. Weis/Pichler, seeded number 2, lost to the Argentinian duo Nicolas Alberto Arreche/Franco Feitt after 1:46 hours of play 6:7(5), 6:3, 4:10. Weis was in an ITF doubles semi-final for the 11th time.
