“He bullies his opponents”: Dispute between tennis stars escalates

“It’s constant bullying. He bullies his opponents,” said the Greek about his former Australian doubles partner. Kyrgios won the third round duel at the grass classic in Wimbledon and, like Tsitsipas himself, misbehaved several times. “He was probably a bully at school. I don't like bullies. I don’t like people who put other people down,” Tsitsipas said.

Kyrgios largely rejected the allegations against him and emphasized that the Greek had committed misconduct. “He was the one who hit balls at me,” said the 27-year-old. “Apart from my back and forth with the referee, I didn’t do anything disrespectful towards Stefanos.” Tsitsipas aimed directly at Kyrgios When Kyrgios scored 6:7(2),6:4,6:3,7:6(7), there were warnings on both sides. The Australian called for his opponent to be disqualified when he hit a ball into the stands. “That was really bad of me,” said Tsitsipas self-critically. “I apologized to people. I don’t know what was going through my head.”

Kyrgios repeatedly argued with the referees, asked referee Damien Dumusois “are you stupid?”, used swear words and also insulted his own team in the stands. Tsitsipas aimed several balls directly at his opponent's body. "That has to stop. It's not okay. Someone needs to sit him down and talk,” said the 23-year-old. It was a “circus show”. Kyrgios has good character traits, but also “a very evil side”.

Kyrgios felt Tsitsipas was a bad loser because he defeated him twice in just over two weeks. “Maybe he should try to figure out how to beat me a few times first,” the Australian said, calling his opponent “soft.”
