First corona infections among Australian Open starters

According to information from the responsible health authorities, two additional infections resulted in reported active participants testing positive for the virus for the first time in the run-up to the first Grand Slam tournament of the season. In addition, the test of another person close to the tournament gave a positive result. In total, the number of infected people from the tennis entourage rose to eight. Two further cases were classified as no longer contagious because the infection had already been overcome. The names of the new corona patients are not known. The Victorian State Department of Health said only that the infections were found in a woman in her 20s and two men in their 30s. A total of more than 1000 professionals and accompanying persons traveled Down Under in specially chartered aircraft. After positive test results in three machines, the authorities ordered a strict quarantine in the hotel rooms for 72 tennis professionals with no opportunity for training. No professionals were affected by the first five infections. However, the group of people who tested positive included Sylvain Bruneau, the coach of the former US Open winner Bianca Andreescu (Romania).
