Final triumph in Turin: Djokovic ascends to the throne

The 35-year-old Serbian tennis top star was unstoppable in the final in Turin with a 7:5, 6:3 win against the Norwegian French Open and US Open finalist Casper Ruud. As the undefeated champion in the preliminary round, Djokovic secured a record bonus of $4,7 million.

Djokovic didn't seem to feel physically comfortable at the start against Ruud. The Serbian tournament favorite quickly recovered, improved increasingly - and deservedly prevailed as fans in the box, to the delight of his children Stefan and Tara. The 21-time Grand Slam tournament winner held his serve games more confidently than Ruud from the start and avoided the tiebreak with the first break of the match to make it 7:5 in the first set.

Djokovic draws level with Federer In the semi-final against the American Taylor Fritz on Saturday, Djokovic won the tiebreak twice and had more problems than Ruud against the Russian Andrei Rublev. After the four Grand Slam tournaments, the ATP Finals are considered the most important event in tennis. Djokovic is now considered the unofficial world champion and, with his sixth success in total at the traditional year-end tournament, drew level with the now retired Swiss Roger Federer.

At first he didn't need to be at his highest level, but he kept getting better and more superior. In the second set, Djokovic pulled away early with the break to make it 3-1 and didn't give Ruud any more chances. His message to the competition is clear: Djokovic wants to keep winning and will now be a top favorite again at the Australian Open at the start of the new season. Unlike this year, when he had to leave Australia again after a legal dispute due to his lack of a coronavirus vaccination, Djokovic will be allowed to take part in 2023.
