French Open: Only 5000 instead of 11.500 fans per day

As the Paris police prefecture told the AFP news agency on Thursday, only 5000 spectators are allowed into the facility per day, not 11.500 as originally planned. The reasons for this are the worsening Corona situation in the country and the French government's current regulations, which limit public gatherings to 5000 people. The organizers of the French Open initially announced at the beginning of September that they would allow a total of 11.500 spectators per day on the facility. The tournament should be divided into three independent clusters around the Court Philippe Chatrier (capacity: 15.000), the Court Suzanne Lenglen (10.000) and the Court Simonne Mathieu (5000). 5000 spectators should be allowed on Lenglen and Chatrier, and 1500 on Mathieu. Two hotels for all players In total, only up to 15 fans will be able to come over the course of the 75.000-day Grand Slam - a fraction of the 520.000 who were in the stands in 2019. The French tennis association FFT initially did not want to comment when contacted by AFP. The association will rent two hotels near the facility in the Bois de Boulogne, which will be available exclusively to the players and their support staff. “Everyone must stay in these hotels, there will be no exceptions,” said Jean-Francois Vilotte, the association’s director general, in early September.
