Futures tournament of the Tennis Club Bozen presented - VIDEO

The Bolzano tournament was officially presented in the state capital today by club president Paolo Bonvicini and tournament director Markus Innerebner. Also present were Bolzano's deputy mayor Klaus Ladinser, FIT board member Roland Sandrin and the president of the regional association Richard Weißensteiner. The tournament is taking place for the fourth time this year. In 2010 the Argentinian Nicolas Pastor won, the following year the Brit Kyle Edmund and the previous year the Frenchman Guillaume Rufin. In the final he defeated the surprisingly strong Kalterer Thomas Holzer. The 30-year-old Holzer also reached the doubles final with Patrick Prader for the second time in a row, but lost there too against the French duo Rufin/Teixeira. “Thomas Holzer did not register for this year's tournament, but we will give him a wild card give,” promises tournament director Innerebner. The seeding list is headed by the experienced Slovakian Ivo Klec, who is currently number 309 in the world rankings, but was previously among the top 200. The number 2 in the tournament is the Spaniard Enrique Lopez-Perez, the number 3 is the 20-year-old German Maximilian Marterer. The best “Azzurro” in the entry list is Omar Giacalone.

Prader, Vigani and Köll secured qualification

Patrick Prader from Barbian and Joy Vigani from Brixen made it into the qualification, as did Philipp Köll, who received a wild card from his club, TC Bozen. Other South Tyroleans such as Patric Prinoth, Simon Berger, Georg Winkler, David Kostner, Horst Rieder, Michael Kerschbaumer and Alexander Weiss also hope to be able to qualify. The Bolzano tournament starts on Saturday, August 1st with qualification. The main draw begins two days later, while the final is on Saturday, August 8th.

August is futures time in South Tyrolean tennis, because from Saturday the two $15.000 tournaments at TC Bozen and TC Rungg are on the program again. For tennis fans the opportunity to follow some of the best players in the world up close.
