Gaio loses: All Azzurri eliminated in Val Gardena

Despite a good start, the man from Faenza had to admit defeat to number 3 seeded Aslan Karatsev from Russia (ATP 111). Karatsev won 1:41 (7) and 6:3 after 6:3 hours and is now in the semifinals.

Gaio started the match very well. In the second game he had a first break chance, then managed the break to make it 2-1 and was almost perfect in his service games until he made it 3-1. When he served to win the set at 5:2, Karatsev got stronger and got the break. The first set was decided in a tiebreak, where the Russian won the first 5 points and didn't let the set be taken away.
